Grim Grinning Cherry - Free Crochet Pattern

MATERIALS:

Red & Green yarn (and a thread of pink)
3 mm hook
20 mm safety eyes
Fiber-fill
Scissors
Upholstery needle

ABBREVIATIONS:

CH - Chain
ST(s) - Stitches
SL ST - Slip Stitch
RND - Round
SC - Single Crochet
INC - Single Crochet Increase
DEC - Single Crochet Decrease

NOTES:

If you would prefer to use the magic ring, start with 8 sts.
You can use thicker yarn for this project, please just make sure you are sizing your yarn and hook accordingly

INSTRUCTIONS:

Cherry:

Using RED yarn, CH 4, SL ST to connect ring.
RND 1: (INC) X4 (8 sts) - crocheting over your tail will allow you to pull your STs tighter at the end of this RND.
RND 2: (INC) X8 (16 sts)
RND 3: (SC, INC) X8 (24 sts)
RND 4: (SC 2, INC) X8 (32 sts)
RND 5: (SC 3, INC) X8 (40 sts)
RND 6-15 (10 RNDS): SC 40 (40 sts)
RND 16: (SC 6, DEC) X8 (32 sts)
RND 17: (SC 4, DEC) X6 (30 sts)
Insert your safety eyes between RNDS 7&8 counting up from your hook. Eyes should have 7-8 sts between them. Secure the eyes.
RND 18: (SC 3, DEC) X6 (24 sts)
RND 19: (SC 2, DEC) X6 (18 sts)
Add stuffing.
RND 20: (SC, DEC) X6 (12 sts)
RND 21: (SC, DEC) X4 (8 sts)
Add stuffing.
Sew the remaining sts closed.
Using red yarn, shape the face if you want to.
Using your pink thread (or yarn) sew a little X where the mouth should be.

Ears X2:

Using RED yarn, CH 4, SL ST to connect ring.
RND 1: (INC) X4 (8 sts) - crocheting over your tail will allow you to pull your STs tighter at the end of this RND.
RND 2: (INC) X8 (16 sts)
RND 3: (SC, INC) X8 (24 sts)
RND 4: (SC, INC) X12 (36 sts)
Fold this piece in half and SC along the edge of both halves.
Repeat for the second ear.
Using pins place each of the ears on the top of your cherry and sew them in place using red yarn. Sew in your ends.

Cherry Stem:

Using GREEN yarn, CH 4, SL ST to connect ring.
RND 1: (INC) X4 (8 sts) - crocheting over your tail will allow you to pull your STs tighter at the end of this RND.
RND 2: (SC 3, INC) X2 (10 sts)
RND 3-5 (3 RNDS): SC 10 (10 sts)
RND 6: (SC 3, DEC) X2 (8 sts)
RND 7: SC 8 (8 sts)
RND 8: (SC 2, DEC) X2 (6 sts)
RND 9-21 (13 RNDS): SC 6 (6 sts)
Using pins place the stem in the center of the top of your cherry and sew it in place using green yarn. Sew in your ends.
