MATERIALS:
Variegated yarn (I'm using CARON Chunky Cakes in the color Rainbow Jellys)
5 mm hook
20-25 mm safety eyes
Fiber-fill
Scissors
ABBREVIATIONS:
CH - Chain
ST(s) - Stitches
SL ST - Slip Stitch
RND - Round
SC - Single Crochet
INC - Single Crochet Increase
DEC - Single Crochet Decrease
NOTES:
I am using CARON chunky cake for my worm, however I do not like how long the color sections are before the change color. So I am color controlling (meaning I'm just cutting my yarn when I like how much I've done and want to change color).
If you would prefer to use the magic ring, start with 8 sts.
You can use any weight yarn for this project, please just make sure you are sizing your yarn and hook accordingly.
This is a SUFF-AS-YOU-GO project, you don't need a lot of stuffing, just enough to help your worm keep a worm shape.
My finished worm using the CARON chunky cake yarn and a 5mm hook measures almost 30" long.
INSTRUCTIONS:
CH 4, SL ST to connect ring.
RND 1: (INC) X4 (8 sts) - crocheting over your tail will allow you to pull your STs tighter at the end of this RND.
RND 2: (SC 3, INC) X2 (10 sts)
RND 3: SC 10 (10 sts)
RND 4: (SC 4, INC) X2 (12 sts)
RND 5: SC 12 (12 sts)
RND 6: (SC 5, INC) X2 (14 sts)
RND 7: SC 14 (14 sts)
RND 8: (SC 6, INC) X2 (16 sts)
RND 9: SC 16 (16 sts)
Add your safety eyes between 7-8 RNDS from the tip of the nose. Leave 4 sts between the eyes. Fasten the backs and add some fiber-fill into the face of your worm.

(image showing eye placement) RND 10-59: (50 RNDS): SC 16 (16 sts)
RND 60: (SC 6, DEC) X2 (14 sts)
RND 61-70 (10 RNDS): SC 14 (14 sts)
RND 71: (SC 5, DEC) X2 (12 sts)
RND 72-79 (8 RNDS): SC 12 (12 sts)
RND 80: (SC 4, DEC) X2 (10 sts)
RND 81-86 (6 RNDS): SC 10 (10 sts)
RND 80: (DEC) X5 (5 sts)
Sew the remaining sts closed and sew in your tail.
You're done! I like to tie my worms in cute little knots (totally optional).
Enjoy <3
